About 606
A shared arts and community space in the former Kootenay School of the Arts building.
606 Art Space brings arts, culture, education, and community together at 606 Victoria Street in downtown Nelson.
A community-led strategy
The Future of Kootenay Studio Arts — Operational Feasibility Study (PDF), prepared by Nordicity and MBAC in February 2026, draws on consultation with artists, cultural workers, community organisations, and other local partners. It explores how the building can operate as a shared arts space, with an approach to governance, programming, and financial sustainability.
How the space is run
The building is shared by independent organisations, each with its own identity, activities, and programmes.
Nelson Community Land Trust holds the building lease and manages the shared space. Its role is to steward and implement the strategy outlined in this public consultation.
Meet the organisations at 606.
